Rajnath Singh approves proposal for writing history of India’s borders
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has given authorization for starting work of writing the history of India’s borders. Rajnath Singh made this announcement during a meeting with eminent personalities of Directorate General of Archives, Indian Council of Historical Research, officials of Nehru Memorial Museum and Ministry of External Affairs.
What is the project?
According to the Defence Minister, the work has been proposed to cover various aspects of borders including tracing its earlier state, it’s making, shifting of border, roles of security forces in protecting borders and its impact on socio-economic lives of the Indian people. Ministry of Defence estimated that this work may complete in the next two years.
Importance of the project
• The people of India would get a better understanding of the borders in general and officials in particular.
• It will make people aware of national borders and people living in the border regions.
• It will help to ensure safety and security in border areas after gaining much information about its past and present.
About Indian borders
India’s disputed borders are adjacent with Pakistan and China. The length of Indian borders is approximately 15,106.7 km. Line of Actual Control has already seen many confrontations due to different perceptions. After, India’s second air-strike various political leaders had claimed that India would get back Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
