It requires pre- training for the actual test to qualify for the written test .We groom aspirants for the hard work that one needs to perform.
An officer is a member of an armed force or uniformed service who holds a position of authority. To be able to lead and control, requires the ability to motivate yourself, inspire others and make tough decisions efficiently. When you join to become an Air Force Officer, we’ll help you develop your leadership and management skills, preparing you fully to take on the challenge of leading in real life situations. Lessons in team work, developing communication skills and confidence, honing strategic and dynamic thinking and preparing you to face pressures with ease are grilled into an Officer during his training. The Air Force teaches you all, not only making men and women of young boys and girls but making them leaders in life. An officer’s strength of character and strong moral compass make him/her stand out from the crowd at all times.
As an Officer in the Indian Air Force, you will inherit a glorious heritage and timeless traditions of the IAF, blended perfectly with the latest technology.
As an officer in the Indian Air Force you will strategies, lead and manage. Depending on your qualifications, you could join one of the various branches in the IAF. Broadly the Air Force has three branches with further sub-streams:
(a) Flying Branch
Fighters
Transports
Helicopters
(b) Technical Branch
Mechanical
Electronics
(c) Ground Duty Branch
Administration
Accounts
Logistics
Education
Meteorology
Age Limit:
Candidate’s age should be between 20-24 years for Flying Branch, 20-26 years for Technical Branch & Ground Duty Branch as on 01-01-2016. Age relaxation is applicable as per rules.
Educational Qualification:
Candidates must possess Graduation in any discipline or B.E/ B.Tech with 60% marks for Flying Branch, Four year degree qualification or cleared Sections A and B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India with 60% marks for Technical Branch and Graduation with 60% marks/ P.G degree/ Diploma in any discipline/ C.A/ ICWA with 50% marks for Ground Duty Branches.
Selection Process:
Candidates will be selected based on the performance in AFCAT & Engineering Knowledge Test (EKT) ( for candidates applied for technical branch only) followed by Intelligence Test, Psychological Test, Group Test, Medical Test and Interview conducted by Air Force Selection Boards (AFSBs). Candidates applying for Flying Branch must appear for Pilot Aptitude Battery Test (PABT).
AFCAT Syllabus
(a) AFCAT Exam Syllabus for General Awareness:
History, Sports, Geography, Environment, Culture, Current Affairs, Politics , Civics, Basic Sciences, Defence, Art etc.
b) Verbal Ability in English:
Comprehension, Error Detection, Synonyms, Antonyms, and Testing of Vocabulary, Sentence Completion etc.
c) Numerical Ability:
Decimal Fraction, Simplification, Average, Percentage, Ratio & Proportion, and Simple Interest, Profit & Loss
d) Reasoning and Military Aptitude Test section:
Verbal Skills and Spatial Ability.
